Simple tomato pachadi

tomato pachadi

Ingredients (serves for 2)

tomato - 2 -3
green chili - 4 -5
red chili powder - 1/2 tsp
salt - as needed
fenugreek seeds powder - 1/4 tsp (dry roast fenugreek seeds and grind it to a fine powder)
asafoetida - a pinch
curry leaves - few
mustard seeds - 1 tsp
urad dal - 1 tsp
oil - 1 tsp
garlic - 3 pods


  • chop green chilies and garlic 
  • boil water in a vessel and add tomatoes
  • cook until tomatoes become soft 
  • take the tomatoes out. let it cool. remove the tomato skin.
  • mash the tomatoes roughly
  • heat oil in a vessel and add mustard seeds, urad dal and curry leaves
  • once it splutters, add chopped garlic and green chili
  • saute it for 2 mins and add mashed tomatoes
  • mix well. add salt, red chili powder
  • cook for 10 - 15 mins.  Finally add fenugreek seeds powder. mix well and switch off the flame after 2 mins
  • Serve with hot rice, chappathi, idli or dosa.
