Urulai kilangu kaarakari / Spicy potato curry


Spicy potato curry

Ingredients (serves for 2)

Potato - 3
onion - 1
mustard seeds - 1 tsp
urad dal - 1 tsp
gram dal / channa dal - 1 tsp
red chili powder - 1 tsp
turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
salt - as needed
oil - 3 tsp
curry leaves - few


Method:


  • pressure cook potato for 2 whistles
  • peel off the skin and cut the potato into small pieces
  • slit the onion to fine pieces
  • heat oil in a heavy bottomed vessel and add mustard seeds, urad dal, curry leaves and gram dal
  • once it splutters, add chopped onions
  • fry till the onion becomes transparent and then add salt, turmeric powder and red chili powder
  • saute it for a minute and then add the cooked potato pieces
     
  • mix well and cook it for 4 - 5 mins . Switch off the flame and serve as side dish
