Ingredients (serves for 2)
Godhumai rava / Broken wheat - 2 cups
water - 4 cups
grated coconut - 5 - 6 tsp
salt - as needed
mustard seeds - 1 tsp
urad dal - 1 tsp
curry leaves - few
green chilies - 3
shallots - 8 - 10 nos
oil - 2 tsp
Method:
- wash 2 cups of broken wheat, drain the water and keep it aside
- chop the shallots and slit the green chilies lengthwise
- heat oil in a vessel and add mustard seeds, urad dal and curry leaves
- once it splutters, add chopped shallots and green chili
- fry till the small onions become transparent
- add 4 cups of water and salt. Allow it to boil
- when it is boiling, add the washed broken wheat
- mix well and cook covered for 15 - 20 mins, stir in between and cook until the water is gone and the broken wheat is completely cooked.
- add the grated coconut, stir well for 2 mins and then switch off the flame.
- Serve hot with coconut chutney / pickle / sugar.
