Ellu thogayal / sesame coconut dip


Ellu thogayal

Ingredients (serves for 2)


sesame seeds - 1/2 cup (1 cup size = 150 ml)
red chili - 2
garlic - 2 pods
salt - as needed
tamarind - 1/2 inch piece
grated coconut - 6 tsp


Method:


  • dry roast sesame seeds and red chili till nice aroma comes (around 5 - 8 mins)
  • grind this first to a coarse powder
  • dry roast garlic, grated coconut and tamarind till the coconut becomes golden brown in color
  • add salt and grind it along with the coarse sesame powder
  • add little water and grind it to a smooth paste
  • serve this as a side dish for idli , dosa and urad dal rice
