Godhumai rava payasam / Broken wheat payasam / Dalia kheer




Ingredients (serves for 3)


Broken wheat / Godhumai rava - 1/2 cup
jaggery / Karupatti (palm sugar) - 1/2 cup
milk - 1/4 cup
cardamom(elachi) powder -1/4 tsp
grated coconut - 2 tsp
coconut milk - 1/2 cup
cashews - 5 -6 nos
ghee - 1 tsp


Method:


  • Soak broken wheat for 1 hour . If its fine (small size) broken wheat, then you don't have to soak it, you can directly cook. 
  • Pressure cook by adding 1 1/2 cup of water and give it 3 whistles . If its fine (small size) broken wheat, then just give it a whistle. 
  • heat a vessel with ghee and add cashews , grated coconut
  • fry till the coconut becomes golden brown in color. Switch off the flame and keep it aside
  • Crush the jaggery
  • heat a vessel and add the crushed jaggery with half cup of water
  • once the jaggery dissolved in water, filter it to remove impurities if any. Boil the filtered jaggery water for 2 - 3 mins
  • add the cooked broken wheat and give it a boil
  • add milk , coconut milk and cardamom powder and cook it for 4 - 5 mins.
  • If you want more sweet, you can add sugar
  • Finally add the fried cashews and coconut and switch off the flame.
