Ingredients (serves for 2)
Toor dal - 1/2 cup (1 cup size = 150 ml)
oil - 2 tsp
ghee - 1 tsp
cumin seeds - 2 tsp
green chilli - 2
ginger - 1 inch piece
tomato - 1
salt - as needed
asafoetida - a pinch
red chilli powder - 3/4 tsp
turmeric - 1/4 tsp
lemon juice -2 - 3 drops to squeeze on top before serving.
Method:
- Pressure cook toor dal with turmeric and mash it a little once done
- chop tomato and ginger (very fine pieces) , slit green chilli lengthwise and keep aside.
- heat a vessel with oil and add 1 tsp of cumin seeds and chopped ginger.
- saute it for a minute and then add tomato, salt and green chillies
- cook till the tomato gets mashed up
- add cooked toor dal with little water
- let it boil for 4 - 5 mins and then transfer it to a bowl
- heat 1 tsp of ghee and add 1 tsp of cumin seeds , switch off the flame and then add chilli powder.
- Immediately add it to the top of the dal.
- squeeze 2 - 3 drops of lemon juice before serving.
