Ingredients (serves for 2):
mustard seeds - 1 tsp
urad dal - 1 tsp
green chilli - 4 - 5 nos
onion - 1 (you can use shallots (8 -10) instead of onion for an added taste)
tomato - 1/2
coriander leaves
chilli powder - 1/2 tsp
besan flower (kadalai maavu) - 3 tsp
salt - as needed
asafoetida - a pinch
turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
oil - 2tsp
Method:
- Mix besan flour ( 3 tsp ) with 2 cups of water (1 cup size = 150 ml) and keep it aside.
- cut onions and tomato into small pieces.
- Heat a pan with oil and add mustard seeds, urad dal, green chilli, onion and turmeric.
- Once the onion gets transparent, add chopped tomato and salt.
- saute it for 2 mins and pour the besan flour mixture.
- add chilli powder and let it boil for 5 - 10 mins.
- once the raw smell goes off, add asafoetida and garnish it with coriander leaves.
- It goes well with dosa, idly, chappathi and ven pongal.
