Drumstick Poricha Kuzhambu




Ingredients (serves for 2) : 


[1 cup size = 150ml]
Moong dal - 1/2 cup
tomato - 1
turmeric - 1/2 tsp
sambhar powder - 1 1/2 tsp
oil - 2 tsp
grated coconut - 4 tsp
rice flour - 1/2 tsp
shallots -  6-8
mustard - 1 tsp
urad dal - 1 tsp
cumin seeds - 1 tsp
red chilli - 2 nos
asafoetida - 1 pinch
curry leaves - 1 strand
drumstick - 1

Method:

  • Cut drumstick into small pieces, chop the shallots & tomato and keep it aside.
  • Pressure cook moong dal, tomato, turmeric, sambhar powder with 1 1/2 cups of water (Give it 2 whistles). 


  • Meanwhile, heat a vessel and add drumstick with half cup of water. 
  • Once the drumstick is cooked, add the moong dal mixture.
  • Add salt as per your taste and cook it for 2 mins.
  • Grind cocount and rice flour with little water and pour the grounded mixture to the moong dal mixture. 
  • Let it boil for 5 mins. 
  • In another pan, heat the oil and add mustard seeds, urad dal, cumin seeds, curry leaves, red chilli, asafoetida and chopped onions. Fry until the onions changes to golden brown color.
  • Season the moong dal mixture with the fried onions.
