Cabbage poriyal with moong dal




Ingredients (serves for 2)

cabbage (chopped) - 2.5 cups ( 1 cup = 150 ml)
mustard seeds - 1 tsp
urad dal - 1 tsp
red chilli - 2
moong dal - 4 tsp
grated coconut - 2 tsp
onion (chopped) - 5 tsp
salt - as needed
turmeric - 1/4 tsp
oil - 2 tsp

Method:

  • heat oil in a vessel and add mustard seeds, urad dal, red chilli and chopped onion

  • once the onion gets transparent, add moong dal and 1/2 cup of water. cook in medium flame.
  • once the dal gets cooked ( shouldn't mash), add chopped cabbage, turmeric and salt.

  • sprinkle some water, close it with a lid and keep it for 4 - 5 mins. 
  • once the cabbage is cooked, add grated coconut. 
  • saute it for a minute and switch off the flame.
